One can see many so-called learning programs designed along the same lines. A binary exercise (Yes or No, multiple choices, rank in order etc.). We even call it micro-learning. Is that so? At the best it is training people; it is not learning.
There’s certainly a place for training in workplaces but training is not learning.
Giving people facts, information and insights is a brain dump. It is not learning. Setting strict outcomes as part of a programme is (scalable) education and training. It is not learning. Testing propositions (true or false) is a binary trap. It is not learning.
Learning is when we help people become conscious of their own unconscious. Learning is when we push people to the limits of their imagination. Learning is when we give people the space to explore their potential.
True learning brings us to the point where we realise how little we know and why we need to see the world from another person’s point of view without the urge to prove them wrong. True learning prepares us to navigate uncertainty and make better decisions with greater confidence.
Yes, there’s a place for rapid training in workplaces but let’s not confuse it with learning and certainly not micro-learning.
