It is no surprise that despite our best efforts, there has been no change to enclosed space deaths in the last couple of decades.
According to a study carried out by a maritime organisation InterManager, up to 68% of the deaths happen to senior officers on the ships. Only 5% of the accidents involve trainees. Furthermore, 55% of the accidents occur as part of planned activities although we do not know what ‘planned activities’ really mean.
Even such scant statistics should give us enough to think and question our orthodox approaches to risk assessments.
In this 2-part series, we will outline the problem with our existing approach to enclosed space risks and equip you with practical methods and tools to tackle the risks.
