(Online) Observations & Conversations: Human Judgment, Decision Making and Managing Risk
This program is designed for managers, supervisors, leaders, auditors and investigators to give them a variety of practical tools and methods to better understand human judgment and decision making in high risk operations. The program focuses on improving our observation and conversation skills to better engage with people with the view to make leadership visits, audits and investigations less bureaucratic and more effective for managing the risk.
The program is based on Social Psychology of Risk and Decision Making.

The online course will be facilitated in a total of 6 sessions.
The same session will repeat each day morning and evening to facilitate the workshop in different time zones. You can choose to attend in the time zone that suits your needs.
For example, on September 8th you can either attend session 1 at 1030 or at 1730 UK time.

Understanding how experts make decisions
Influencing habits and heuristics (mental short-cuts)
Session 4. How perception works

Managing the risk of people working alone
Cross checking; overconfidence; rush; and supervision skills
Session 5. Recognising change in high risk operations

Observing and registering change
Improving observation skills to recognise change
Session 6. Listening to words that matter
Methods and tools:
Listening to words that matter for decision making and risk

You are welcome to join the first session for free to check if this is the right course for you. Should you wish to proceed after attending the first session, you will be expected to pay the full fee for all 6 sessions.

Practical details
The entire coursework is based on experiential learning (no lecturing, only role plays, experiments and interactive discussions).
Training manuals, checklists, reading material and recorded videos will be made available to all the attendees.
Online sessions last for 1 hour each.
If you miss an online session, you will have access to recorded (and password protected) videos.
We are a community of more than a hundred people online from around the world and from across sectors.
We meet on a regular basis online and at least once every year in person to share our experiences and have fun learning together.

Working as a seafarer and travelling the world from the age of seventeen gave Nippin the unique opportunity to meet people who think differently.
