Online Program: Learning from accidents
The Program builds on the principle that events and investigations are conditioned by the social context and that social context has a significance on human decision making and behaviours.
The SEEK (Social Psychology Event Exploration & Events) program adds value to already existing incident investigation strategies and complements traditional strategies by adding a strong focus on:
• The bias of the investigator
• The decision-making of the participants
• Social arrangements
• Culture of the organisation and,
• Human contributing factors to events
Program outcomes
By the conclusion of the program participants will:
- Better understand themselves and how their own biases and assumptions can influence event and incident investigation.
- Develop skills in causation and understanding causation bias.
- Learn about the foundations of social psychology and its contribution to event investigation
- Study examples of accident stories (including the Costa Concordia) and learn what happens when investigations are distorted.
- Understand how culture impacts on events and investigation.
- Develop effective questioning skills and interviewing techniques that support a social psychological approach to event investigation.

- How can we understand and improve sensemaking in our organisations?
- How can we observe and learn from everyday work (using a cultural framework)?
- How can we develop and foster expertise in our organisations?
- What does it mean to experience trauma in a crisis?
- How do human beings make decisions in a crisis situation?
- Why do we blame and why we cannot avoid blaming?
- How can we truly and genuinely learn from accidents (a practical framework)?
The book addresses these questions in a highly engaging storytelling format.
Practical guide
- The course will be structured around 4 sessions of 1.5 hours each: June 03, 05, 10 and 12.
- All sessions will be conducted on Zoom.
- You will gain access to the iCue Café (our LinkedIn closed forum) where you will have the opportunity to engage and learn with others who are on this SPoR journey.
- If you cannot attend one of the sessions, we will make our best to book a 30-minute session with the course facilitator before the next session in the program to catch up with the group.
- After the first session, if you feel this course is not up to your expectations, you will be entitled to a full refund.

Nippin AnandFounderNippin has a Masters degree in Economics, a PhD in Social Sciences and a fascination in Cultural Anthropology. Working as a seafarer and travelling the world from the age of seventeen gave Nippin the unique opportunity to meet people who think differently. This experience has informed much of his work to date, encouraging him to find deeper meaning, as well as learn and grow through every challenge he undertakes.

Pedro FerreiraChief ScientistPedro applies a wide diversity of industry and academic research experience to the understanding of how planning, learning and decision-making are at play in different organisations. He has over 20 years of experience as a consultant and researcher in the areas of Safety, Resilience and Ergonomics.
Pedro holds a PhD in “Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Management” and a master degree in Ergonomics and Health & Safety.
